Ian Houston Biography

 

 

1934   Born in Gravesend, Kent
1950   Studied Music at The Royal College of Music, London
   Studied Painting part-time at St Martin's School of Art
1956   Began exhibiting in London
   Met Edward Seago from whom he received on-going training and encouragement
   Moved to Norfolk
   First one man exhibition at Usher Gallery, Lincoln
1970   First exhibited at Mandells Gallery, Norfolk.
1974   Bought sea-going Thames Spritsail Barge "Raybel" (and subsequently gained Master's Certificate in order to study sea, weather and traditional sail in action)
1984   First one-man show in Australia (Victoria Art Society, Melbourne)
1995   Exhibition, Portland Gallery, London
