Edward Seago
Trooping The Colour
Signed, inscribed and dated 'Trooping of the Colour - 1953.' (lower left)
Pen, ink and watercolour
16 x 21 ins
ON LOAN
PROVENANCE:
Acquired directly from the artist by the grandfather of the present owner
In the same year as the Coronation, Seago came to London to paint the ceremony of Trooping The Colour. The present drawing of guards rehearsing for the Queen's birthday parade was never finished as it had begun to rain while Seago was at work (as evidenced by the watermarks on the paper). Seago agreed to sign the work when an enthusiastic art critic saw it in Seago's portfolio.
