The Royal Yacht Britannia was named and launched by The Queen on 16 April 1953 and was commissioned in January 1954. The Queen joined the yacht at Tobruk, in North Africa on its first royal voyage. This painting depicts the arrival of HM The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh at the Pool of London on 15 May 1954. Seago was very grateful to the Port of London Authority for allowing him to moor his boat Capricorn at Cadogan Pier. He gave this painting to Lord Waverley, Chairman of the Authority as a personal gift and mark of his gratitude.
