Milk White Roses shows Fedden combining the influences of various artists; the bowl and pears draw on William Scott, the tipped up table, flowers and jug reveals a debt to Anne Redpath and the patterned background reflects Mary's great love of Matisse. The bold, contrasting colour scheme adopted in this painting is typical of the daring palette for which Mary is so well known.
