In 2010 Mary Fedden described her use of objects in her still life paintings: 'The fish is such a nice horizontal shape and because it is shiny it is also a strong contrasting colour. I put paint brushes in when I feel I need something upright....but why I got hooked on Still Life at such an early age I don't know.'
