Working towards February 2012

Each work that will feature in Mary Anne's 2012 show is an enchanting study of nature at work in a particular patch of her favoured landscape on the South Downs. The exhibition will feature a series of paintings taken from an overgrown, unkempt hedgerow on the woodland edge above Lewes where she has watched, explored and painted over the past three years.

Mary Anne has occupied endless hours focused on this small patch of foliage, accompanied by her loyal labrador Percy, capturing the rare and intimate moments within the woodland's natural habitat. She comments, By looking into the minutiae: fallen leaves, a muddle of twigs.a bank vole scurrying across my shoes as I work .you start to see, just being there day after day, how subtle and complex nature is.
