John Piper

Whitehorn Priory
Ink & Watercolour
15 x 23 ins
The Artist John Piper produced this watercolour painting in his seventieth year.

Churches had been a life long subject for Piper and this particular subject is probably Whithorn Priory in Wigtownshire, Galloway. A noted place of pilgrimage founded around the middle of the 12th century. Although Piper's spelling in the title of the painting is different it appears, from images of the Priory, to be the same location.
