In 1940 Maclauchlan Milne moved to Corrie on the Isle of Arran. There he met the classical pianist Elsie MacKellar who became his second wife. He settled with her in her white-walled crofter cottage 'Seaview' in High Corrie and spent happy years there hosting summer schools for artists. The hawthorn tree seen in blossom in the foreground of High Corrie, looking up to Goatfell would have been watered by the fast running stream that ran down from Goatfell, Arran's highest peak, just visible in the far distance.
