Maclauchlan Milne moved to the isle of Arran on the outbreak of the Second World War. He settled at High Corrie on Arran's east coast and was to stay there for the remainder of his life.
Ferry Rock is the middle of three harbours in the village of Corrie. The other two harbours are both man-made, but Ferry Rock is simply an inlet in the coastline. In the days when steamers would circumnavigate the island, the village of Corrie was a regular stop, with passengers embarking by rowing boat.
